Income Tax Filing and Payment Deadline for Tax Year 2020

2021-04-18

Canada Revenue Agency has no plans to extend the tax filing and payment deadline for tax year 2020 year even though COVID-19 pandemic has made it challenging to make the cutoff date. The current 2020 income tax filing and payment deadlines are:

·         For individuals, you must ensure that your returns are filed by April 30, 2021, and that payments are made by April 30, 2021.

·         For self employed individuals and their spouse or common law partner, you must ensure that your returns are filed by June 15, 2021, and any balance owing is paid by April 30, 2021.

·        For corporations, the filing deadline is 6 months after the end of the corporation’s tax year. Generally, corporations have to pay their taxes in instalments, either monthly or quarterly.

·        For Trusts, the filing deadline is 90 days after the end of the tax year. The payment date is also 90 days after the end of the tax year.
